26 Years of IMSIT
The New Delhi YMCA started Centre for Mass
Media (CMM) in 1984 to conduct post-graduate
diploma courses in Public Relations and
Advertising and Journalism. The Centre was
conceived and launched by Mr. Wilfred Lazarus, a
reputed journalist who was then the President of
YMCA. Mr Lazarus was formerly the General
Manager of the now-defunct Samachar News Agency
and the Principal Information Officer of the
Government of India. In the past about 25 years
this Centre has produced more than 5,000 media
persons, many of whom occupy high positions in
Public Relations, Advertising and Print and
Electronic media organisations.

The CMM was re-christened as the Institute for
Media Studies and Information Technology (IMSIT)
in 2000 when Information Technology was added to
it.
In 2000-2001 IMSIT started a 6-month
postgraduate course in TV and Radio Journalism.
The Institute has separate TV and Radio Labs.
The TV Editing Lab has Velocity and Final Cut
Pro machines. In 2007 this course was upgraded
to a one-year Advance Diploma in TV Production
and Journalism. The same year (2000) it started
a one-year postgraduate diploma course in Hindi
journalism. In 2003, the Institute started
short-term TV news reading and anchoring courses
for 10+2 students.
To meet a pressing demand from working people
the Institute started in 2008 one-year Saturday
courses in Public Relations and Advertising and
in Modern Journalism in English, Hindi and Urdu.
3rd year BA students are eligible.
Rules and regulations and the syllabi are given
at the end of this Prospectus.
In (2009) the Institute has started a one-year
diploma course in Applied Art for students who
have passed their 12th class or have
appeared for the 12th class exam.
This year (2010) it is launching a six-month
Post-graduate course in Sports Broadcasting and
Management. The Institute also conducts courses
in Computer Application and Broadcast Animation
and Cartoon Film Making of one-year duration for
10+2 candidates. (Please see a separate
prospectus for details).
As in the revision of courses, maximum care is
taken in selecting experienced, practising
professionals to teach our students.
