YMCA, or Young Men Christian Association, is a
world-wide movement which helps people grow
spiritually, mentally and physically. Its logo,
the Red Triangle, symbolizes these three
activities. Thus education has been one of its
main activities.
The YMCA movement came to India in 1854 in
Kolkata. In New Delhi it was started in 1927.
In the initial years the New Delhi YMCA provided
secretarial training to young men and women.
Today the YMCA runs four institutes of
professional courses. They are 1. Institute for
Media Studies and Information Technology (IMSIT),
2. Institute of Management Studies (IMS), 3.
Institute for Office Management (IOM) and 4.
Institute for Career Studies (ICS).
The IMSIT was started as the Centre for Mass
Media (CMM) in 1984. It was given its present
name in 2000 when it was merged with Centre for
Graphics Art Designing (CGAD) to conduct media
courses with Information Technology courses. It
has been Institute's effort to keep updating its
courses and relate them to emerging market
demands. The teaching is done by experienced
professionals in relevant fields.
